Instrument
Model of guitar or bass: US tele Fiesta Red with maple neck
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Stock Fenders (both)
Other pickups on guitar: see above
Artists using this pickup: ?
You musical style(s): 60's sounds and a little jazz/rock
Reason for pickup change: Whilst the basic guitar is sound the pickups left a lot to be desired. For my taste the stock pickups seemed underpowered and need more breadth to their tone. They needed more balls.
Sound
Perceived output level: The output is on a par with Strat Texas specials, they can really wack it out.
Tone: Tone is on the whole middy and rich with bright touches and lots of warmth.
Sonic evaluation: I use my tele through a Marshall Valvestate and Zoom effects pedal. These new pickups give me a great warm tone, not too bright and let me really power out solos and lead rifts, being a matched set there isn't too much difference in volume between the pickups and this allows switching between the two easily, they sound great to me.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Again, 60's stuff and some jazz, these Tele tweeds really suit and can be made to give a richness not present with the original pickups
Overall Rating
Comments: I have seldom (never) felt that I wanted to praise a product, after all, anything we buy should be capable of doing its supposed job, but these pickups are so good I felt I should sing their praises, Not only do they look right but they sound great. I noticed Andy's address on another review here, They said Andy was helpful, and he sure is. He's probably one of the most knowledgeable non-bullshitting people around, good advice, great product super sounds. I'm happy that I've found the right pickups, to confirm this I've just bought another set for a different, cheap copy Tele and they even make this crappy guitar sound fantastic. I'm amazed.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value
