Instrument
Model of guitar or bass: Jap Strat
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Texas Specials
Other pickups on guitar:
Artists using this pickup: none that I know, yet
You musical style(s): Loud rock, and smooth jazz
Reason for pickup change: The Texas Specials gave me the power I wanted but had too much top, I wanted a rounder fuller sound and I needed to keep up the power/volume. I also like the idea of matched pickups so there is no volume loss when swapping between pickups mid-song.
Sound
Perceived output level: Crunchy warm, drives amp well, as powerful as TexasSpecials.
Tone: They are strong on mids with good bass and have just enough top end
Sonic evaluation: Simple black jap Strat with wilkinson Bridge, rosewood f/b, AC30 and/or a Fender Vibrolux. The start whilst basic is well set up and the amps I choose to use give me classic sound I wanted something meaty to compliment them, these tweed Tones do that. They are clear and crsip packed full of punch, back off the volume and they are sweet and true and seem to grab all the tones I wanted, up the volume and they really get hot and crunchy with a mass of power. The extra tones I seem to get when string bending are outa this world.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Rock and sixties mainly but like everyone just love good rifts.......
Overall Rating
Comments: I found these pickups while visiting www.pickuprepairs.com, after discussing my needs with Andy there, I chose his pickups, I was sent them to try first, and I didn't pay anything, till I'd tried them, guess Andy knew that I'd like 'em. They did everything he said they would, the guys in my band reckon that my whole playing style has changed, they are really good value for money, and must be the best "Bang for Bucks" ever, a real custom made set of strat pickups for a hundred quid. They didn't have fancy packing or come in little boxes but you don't play expensive packing anyway. They are well made have a warranty and I'd kill anyone who nicked them. They may not be to everyone's taste, they are very '60s but with that hidden power and they soundChris great on stage. I love 'em. Go buy a set!
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value

Instrument
Model of guitar or bass: US Strat
Position: all positions
Pickup being replaced: Std Fender
Other pickups on guitar: as above
Artists using this pickup: Well if no-one does they should!
You musical style(s): Just about anything
Reason for pickup change: I wasn't happy with the sound the standard pickups gave me and I wanted more presence, I don't like the very toppy sounds made by almost every strat pickup sold, they are too harsh and brittle.
Sound
Perceived output level: These are warm, on a par with Texas Specials but richer and sweet
Tone: As their name suggest they are Tweedy, good bass, plenty of mids but without that awful high top end, sweet and rich.
Sonic evaluation: I now use a US Strat and Orange amp through a range of pedals, but have a collection of guitars and amps so have tried other set ups as well and the Tweed Tones sound good through all my amps.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I love playing - anything

Comments: I've been playing for more than 30 years, and as a gigging guitarist I needed a good set of pups for my tool, these are they. They can give clarity and sweetness but can stil bite, I used to use Texas type pups but found them too brittle and harsh these give me the stage power and yet don't over do it. I bought them from Andy at www.pickuprepairs.com and his service was terrfic, ordered one day they arrived the next, no fancy packaging just great pickups. If I could give these 11 out of 10 I would. Did I mention that they have a gaurantee for as long as you own them? No, well they do, not many others would have that much faith in their product and I got a set of for £100 - that's 3 handwound custom pickups for a ton, Hope he didn't make a mistake! I'd certainly recomend them to anyone.
