Product Info

Pickup features: Passive Humbucker
Impedence or other specs:
Price Paid: US $87
Purchased from: Manufacturer

Instrument

Model of guitar or bass: Charvel 750XL
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: Dimarzio Super Distortion
Other pickups on guitar: Dimarzio PAF
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Metal to Latin Blues
Reason for pickup change: Heard outragious claims about these, decided to see for myself.

Sound

Perceived output level: Much hotter than the SD it replaced at half the distance to the strings.
Tone: Almost perfectly balanced. Very sensitive to string proximity.
Sonic evaluation: I use a Boogie MkIII live, and a Johnson J-Station for recording. These p/u's are more articulate than anything I've ever heard. On several tunes I'm working on I had to re-learn many parts - The Adder is quite unforgiving to sloppy playing!

With the SD, I had to really dig into the strings to get the desired definition for my leads. Now I just touch the strings and the notes ring out - clear as a bell.

These also match up well with on-board preamps.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play a wide range of styles, and haven't found one this p/u would be unsuited for. I've only used it in the bridge position, so I can't comment otherwise.

Overall Rating

Comments: - I would replace it in a heartbeat. - Been playing about 25 years, have about 9 guitars with SD, Dimarzio, Jackson, and Kent Armstrong p/u's. - Only negative is the wait time. Mel, with one assistant, builds these as they are ordered. Expect a 2-3 month wait. - I will be ordering many more of these in the future.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value

Overall Rating

Comments: i would definatly replace this pup if it were lost or stolen. i have never heard a louder, clearer, hotter, smoother, cleaner, yet still a distortion class pickup in my life!!! EMG only wishes it could sound as good as these pups do! if you want to make a cheap, crappy guitar sound good, or want to make a good guitar sound even better, TRY an APC pickup, you can't beat the sound quality of APC!!!!!!!!

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value
