Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s):
Reason for pickup change: Wanted to upgrade my guitar and APC is local so I thought I'd check them out.

Sound

Perceived output level: High
Tone: Inspiring
Sonic evaluation: The Syrinx doesn’t have the extra meaty sound the Felony X has, but I really like the clarity of the distorted tone. Like I said in my Persuader review, the pups were wired in parallel and then in series. When wired in parallel and a distortion pedal on, there was noise, but no more than any other pickups. When wired in series and distorted, noise was almost non-existent. When I play clean the Syrinx gives a thick but cutting tone.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: If you know how to adjust your amp, your effects and pickup height then you can play whatever you want.

Overall Rating

Comments: The web is usually full of polarized opinions, but I haven’t found anything negative about APC on the internet yet, and I think that makes a strong statement. While APCs might be a little more expensive than some mass produced run of the mill pickups, APCs are way cheaper than most, if not all, boutique or low production hand wound pickups. You could always call Mel and ask him if you could work out a payment plan or something. Your ears will thank you.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value

Overall Rating

Comments: I have been spankin' the plank for 30+ years, used to work in a music store, played almost every conceivable guitar, pickup, amp, etc. I was looking for high output, with harmonic definition, without having to play "perfectly". Also, I wanted a lot of sustain, and the ability to split coils, etc. Oh yeah, I also wanted low noise too...I friggin' wanted it all! Played a lot of other stuff, heard about Adder Plus Pu's on this site, thought I'd try them. All I have to say is KICK ASS! These pickups are so versatile, this guitar has gone from hardly ever played to front of the arsenal. I have a Syrinx in the bridge position, and a Malice in the neck position, run them with a 5-position switch, and a push-push switch that makes them single coil. The range of tones I can get from this guitar now is beyond my expectations...if you're sick of Duncan/Lawrence/blah blah blah try these out. They're going to be all over my upcoming CD "PASSION" due out april 05 at carlnewtonmusic.com. Great Pu's!

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value

Instrument

Model of guitar or bass: Yamaha Pacifica
Position: bridge
Pickup being replaced: stock
Other pickups on guitar: Carvin single coils
Artists using this pickup: ?
You musical style(s): all over the map
Reason for pickup change: The stock pickup was rather dull.

Perceived output level: Pretty hot, like a JB but with more EMG-like clear highs.
Tone: Very balanced, with pleasing highs that go well with single-coils
Sonic evaluation: Yamaha pacifica with Korg AX1500G and Peavey Classic 50.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I play a lot of styles, but usually rock, country, blues. This pickup works well with effects.

Overall Rating

Comments: If this went bad or something, I would buy another if I could find one! I have been playing for 20 odd years. To me, this sounds like an EMG, but without the hassle of batteries. Works very well on a guitar with single coils.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value
