Overall Rating

Comments: The guitar I put this pickup in was made from a great piece of Black Walnut that is hard to describe tone wise. The closest word I've found is "luscious". That works for me. This pickup brings out all those warm, clear and luscious tones and that's exactley what I was aiming for. I'ts hard to believe it's a solid body when you hear it played through the neck pickup by itself. Especially nice in SC mode. Works great with the H2+ in the bridge position. Best of both worlds. Would replace in a heart beat.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value

Product Info

Pickup features: passive full-sized humbucker
Impedence or other specs:
Price Paid: came stock in the guitar
Purchased from: dealer name withheld by request

Instrument

Model of guitar or bass: anderson cobra
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: no pickup is being replaced. this model came stock on the guitar, and this review illustrates why i am NOT going to change the pickup.
Other pickups on guitar: anderson H2+ in bridge
Artists using this pickup: see my comments regarding this on my review of the anderson HO1- humbucker
You musical style(s): pop/rock/funk/R&B
Reason for pickup change: i am not changing the pickup, as stated above.

Sound

Perceived output level: medium-output humbucker, with slightly more output than a duncan '59.
Tone: very balanced overall. this is a good amount of bass response with this pickup, and the top end is very smooth. compared to the HO1- i have in my hollow cobra, this pickup has a bigger concentration in the lower midrange compared to the HO1-'s more upper-midrange focus
Sonic evaluation: i use this pickup in an anderson cobra into a bogner ecstasy 101B head and a bogner straight 412 cabinet with vintage 30's.

i wanted a pickup that would be a great match for the H2+ in the bridge position of this guitar. in particular, i wanted a full, chunky tone more akin to eric clapton's famous "woman" tone, as opposed to something brighter, open, and more hollow-sounding. however, the pickup still had to be responsive and dynamic when i backed off on the gain. on top of that, the pickup had to split well, because i often find myself using a single-coil tone with a clean tone for rhythm parts. the H1- does all of this exceedingly well--its split sound is like a hotter, warmer strat pickup.

For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: this pickup is a great match for the stuff i play. it's very full and rich-sounding, and it can cover a lot of bases well. players who are looking for more of a vintage tone should probably check out the HO1-.

Overall Rating

Comments: i would definitely replace the H1- in my cobra with another one were the pickup damaged or non-functional for whatever reason.

i'm keeping the pickup in this guitar, and i think that ought to speak for itself.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value
