Pickup being replaced: Stock Schaller humbucker
Other pickups on guitar: Bareknuckle Mule in the bridge
Artists using this pickup: ?????
You musical style(s): folk, blues and beyond.
Reason for pickup change: The Schaller/Fenders were not at all responsive
Sound
Perceived output level: This is classic p90 output - a near PAF type humbucker but hot single coil's worth of output
Tone: Classic P90 - i,e, fat, smoky, like a PAF but with more bass and bite. Also more definition due to it being a single coil.
Sonic evaluation: Awesome! It covers all the bases of tone - perhaps a little too hot for Jazz, although with the right amp it does it well. It does Blues/Rock at a deluxe level - from weeping Peter Green to ballsy Lesley West to Dickie Betts type tones. I think the Alnico IV makes it very musical and very powerful - it has none of the mushy problems of Alnico II. Whacked up it is capable of high gainy stuff, but obviously it was not designed for that (Bareknuckle do a Warpig-90 for that style!).
As to noise - a common complaint with single coils - well this comes in a chrome cover so that acts to shield most 60 cycle hum, but turn it up and the old hum is there. I dont care about it, but this pup is not a sterilized P100 stacked coil but the real mcoy single coil.
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: Electric Folk, Blues/Rock stuff - this is perfect for it - and it can get much hotter - hitting Iommi standards easily
Overall Rating
Comments: It a plain 10 out of 10 - through any amp it makes an OK guitar sound the balls.
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value

All the reviews I've read on Bare Knuuckles I thought I'd give them a try.
The pickups have transformed my elecrtic guitars into excelent instruments for both live and recording use, they give an individual tone yet still retains the intruments sound e.g. semi acoustic or telecaster sound.
I have used other pickups in the past but nothing compares to Bare Knuckle for quality of sound and build - they are simply beautiful. Fantastic service at Bare Knuckle - in my case it's nice to know the Mississipi Queen had been hand made the day before I installed it!
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value

Instrument
Model of guitar or bass: Gibson SG Special
Position: neck
Pickup being replaced: Stock Item
Other pickups on guitar: Bare Knuckle War Pig in Bridge Position
Artists using this pickup:
You musical style(s): Blues - Rock - Metal and whatever takes my fancy
Reason for pickup change: Stock item was good quality but nothing special
Sound
Perceived output level: In the neck a good balance for a bridge War Pig so LOUD
Tone: Full bodied tone but with definition only a single coil can bring
Sonic evaluation: Vetta 2. Ofull tilt ithas a beautifull fluid full tone for running of licks full of tone that never become muddy but also never thin. Run clean it has a beautiful tone whether run wet or dry. I think you would haver to find a real nasty tranny amp for this puppy not to want to cry and sing
For which styles and positions is this pickup (un)suitable: I cannot imagine this being unsuitable for anything

Comments: If it is stolen i would replace it for sure - but I would also find the looser under which ever stone he had hidden :) The Mississippi Queen at this present time is not quite in production - so contact Tim at Bare Knuckle, he is a nice bloke and will help you. I had my pickup made with a custom War Pig distressed cover, worth considering covering with something, does not need to be as extreme as mine but the end result is very quiet for a single coil. Be in no doubt his pick-ups have the finest tone you will find - no bullshit
On a scale of 1 to 10, I give this pickup a: 10 Fantastic value
