If you can figure out how to plug it in and push the power on button you should be able to control this unit just fine.. Some may have difficulty with the plug and button thing so for those technically challenged people BEWARE...Better yet, they should rethink playing guitar and play their stereo only.

This li'l "smart" box does exactly what it should...Get rid of the hiss/noise/hum created from your setup.
I'm supposed to list my setup here...Well depending on day, time, mood, temperature, hair length, etc it could be almost anything from guitar all the way to cabinet. Sorry guys but I'm real lucky to have such an understanding wife...lol.. This unit will fit after my preamps and before the power amp. I have way too many pieces of gear to list here. All that matters is the smart gate do the job it's designed to do and it does it Very well.

One of my rigs is a complete rockman setup and I wouldn't hesitate to use without backups if I gigged the rockman rig. Quality products for the most part. This unit is no exception.

I play all sorts of different styles of music. Since I was lucky enough to gig through the 80's and 90's and make a few bucks I'd have to say I lean towards playing more rock/hard rock style.
I do have one observation I'd like to put in this comment box....Do these new guitarists who all sound the same know how to play solos or is that the direction of the newer generation (rythm only boys)Hummmmm?
This little unit has a spot in my latest rig somewhere after my Triaxis/ADA MP-1 rack mates but before the TubePower section. It does a great job of getting rid of what you don't want to hear but most important doesn't ping pong/flutter or bounce when a note decays like so many other noise gates built around the optoisolator component(including my HUSH).
If I find another one of these babies for a decent buck I'd pick it up and stick it on the second channel of my stereo setup. For now I'm just MONO quiet guy...lol..
Good luck in your search for an inexpensive box like this. I lucked out and picked mine up at the local music shop on the bargin/reduced to clear table.

There are only 3 controls, if you have it which you probably do not (that's why your reading this) it has three kinds of noise reductions to choose from and a slider for threshold.

It is the best noise gate for very noisy things like a Rockman Sustainor without drowning out the guitar. If you want it for something that doesn't have uncontrollable buZZ you'll probably want something else.

If you have seen any other Rockman reviews or if you are just retarded rockman is no longer owned by SR&D. It is owned by............................DUNLOP :( You can still get them refurbished from Dunlop for $50

Let's look at the cons(very minor ones) and pros(plenty of em). It is designed by Tom Scholz(MIT Grad who was in the band BOSTON), It is easy to use, makes your crappy fuzzy equipment sound great, and it is made to last. To cons are they are hard to find for a good price and the customer support. All and allthe pros drown out the cons.

JUST PLUG INTO YOUR EFFECTS LOOP AND IT CUTS ALL THE NOISE, DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF THRESHOLD YOU APPLY. IT HAS A FULL BAND,MID BAND & HISS GATE WHICH YOU CAN SELECT AND AMOUNT OF THRESHOLD, FROM 0 TO 30.

IT CAN REALLY CUT SOUND AND COMPRESS IT A LITTLE BIT IF YOU WANT BUT IS REALLLY A GOOD TOOL FOR NOISY AMPS LIKE THE 5150. I RUN IT INTO THE EFECTS LOOP AND YOU HEAR VERY LITTLE HUM.

VERY DEPENDABLE AND EASY TO USE. I WOULD USE IT W/O A BACKUP AND IT IS EASY TO MANIPULATE.
