Alesis Features M20(TM) 20-Bit ADAT Type II-Format High-Performance Digital Audio Recorder at AES ShowSeptember 26, 1997 -- Alesis Corporation will be featuring the first live audio demonstrations of the M20(TM) Professional 20-Bit Digital Audio Recorder, according to Jim Mack, Alesis VicePresident of Marketing. The M20, first announced at the European AES convention in March, is a new 20-bit ADAT-format digital multitrack audio recorder designed to meet the highest standards of performance for commercial recording and post-production facilities. "The M20 offers several advantages for the high end of professional audio recording," said Mack. "It implements ADAT Type-II, the only MDM format that writes 20 bits to tape, so its audio quality is sixteen times as detailed as 16-bit formats. Its feature set and all-new transport are designed with completely professional applications in mind. And, of course, it offers compatibility with over 100,000 ADAT recorders in use worldwide." The M20 is an all-new, professional-quality ADAT designed from the ground up for demanding, around-the-clock applications which require the highest standard of audio quality as well as low maintenance requirements, high speed operation and built-in SMPTE/EBU time code synchronization. The M20 uses ADAT Type 11, the only MDM format that records 20-bit digital audio onto tape. The M20 is compatible with all existing ADAT-compatible recorders, but offers an all-new, direct-drive transport. The M20, the CADI Remote/Autolocator and RMD Remote Meter Display will arrive at selected Alesis Pro Audio and Broadcast dealers later this year. The M20's retail price will be less than $7,000 (US).
