Ionizer Upgrade Simplifies Use, Adds Features

September 26, 1997 -- Arboretum Systems today announced availability of Ionizer version 1.1. Since its initial 1.0 release in March, Arboretum has made a number of significant interface and feature set improvements to Ionizer, so it is even easier to use for noise reduction, mastering and sound design tasks.

A Power Mac-native application, Ionizer offers fast spectral analysis and 512 bands of gated EQ per channel, which can be used for dynamic noise reduction, equalization, limiting, compression and expansion, with 32-bit floating point internal precision. Ionizer is completely user-configurable, allowing users to do things like limit the low end, expand the midrange and compress the high end in a single pass.

Now features in Ionizer version 1.1 include:

  • Improved editing tools for faster, easier threshold and gain curve setting
  • New presets for mastering, sound design and special effects
  • New Mood Bar real-time display lets you view gate action and gain activity
  • Direct support for Digidesign Audiomedia III cards
  • New shortcuts and key commands
  • Improved HyperEngine shell for stand-alone operation and real-time play-through processing
  • Completely rewritten hyper text user's guide documents all Ionizer functions and provides lots of background information and hands-on examples
Ionizer operates as a plug-in effect within any Premiere-compatible audio application, including Adobe Premiere, Macromedia DECK II, Opcode Vision and StudioVision, MOTU Digital Performer 2.1, Bias Peak, Emagic Logic Audio 3.0 and Gallery TurboMorph. Ionizer will also run as a stand-alone application on any Power Macintosh through Arboretum's HyperEngine shell. HyperEngine advantages include unlimited-length disk-based preview, the ability to run multiple Ionizer windows concurrently for complex multi-effects, or running Ionizer in a play-through mode for processing external signals in real-time, much like a hardware effect device.

Ionizer runs on the Mac built-in audio hardware, includes special direct support for Audiomedia III (without Sound Manager) and also will run on other Mac sound cards with appropriate Sound Manager drivers. Audiomedia III users can take advantage of that card's 24-bit internal precision with Ionizer, allowing them to process digital signals at the highest possible resolution.

Ionizer is manufactured and distributed by Arboretum Systems, Inc., a privately-held San Francisco firm founded by Georges Jaroslaw. Jaroslaw says "we've been listening to the initial user feedback and have responded with this major upgrade to Ionizer. Ionizer is more advanced and better sounding than competing noise reduction packages, and now it's even simpler to use."

Ionizer version 1.1 is now shipping at a suggested U.S. retail price of $795.00, international pricing may vary. Ionizer v1.1 is a FREE update for owners of Ionizer v1.0.
