DigiTech Talker Allows Instruments to Talk and Sing
September 26, 1997 -- New this fall from DigiTech is the Talker. Offering the most advanced effect technology to hit the music industry and broadcast markets since the introduction of the Whammy Pedal, the Talker is a vocal synthesis processor that enables guitarists, bassists, keyboardists and other musicians to make their instruments talk and sing. Talking or singing into a microphone while playing an external electric/electronic instrument through the Talker creates intelligible words and phrases through an amplifier or PA. This is achieved by a revolutionary new process called Advanced Vocal Synthesis. This new technology is the product of two years of extensive research into physical modeling of the human voice. Unlike anything else on the market, the DigiTech Talker truly needs to be experienced to be believed. Six presets are offered on the Talker--NuVo, AutoWah, Tazmania, TalkBox, Alien and AutoTalk--providing a rich sonic palette from which to choose. The back panel of the Talker is equipped with both XLR balanced and 1/4-inch unbalanced inputs and output. The microphone input also features a switchable -10/+4dBu pad to accommodate different impedances. Rotary controls for microphone and guitar input and effect level are found on the face of the pedal, as well as dedicated footswitches for Program Select and Bypass. LEDs indicate the selected program, mic clip, guitar clip and bypass. Shipping in mid-October, suggested U.S. retail pricing on the Talker is $299.95.
