Digidesign Introduces Pro Tools 24

24-Bit recording, editing, and mixing

September 26, 1997 -- Today Digidesign unveiled Pro Tools® 24; a system which records, edits and mixes 24-bit resolution audio. Offering outstanding sonic performance PT|24 offers yet another price breakthrough from Digidesign.

The Pro Tools 24 System is comprised of the d24TM card (provides track count); the Digidesign DSP FarmTM (for signal processing and mixing); Pro Tools 4.1 software and the new 888 24 I/O InterfaceTM (supplies eight channels of 24-bit A/D conversion, 8 channels of 20-bit D/A and 8 channels of AES/EBU).

Each Pro Tools 24 core system will initially provide a minimum of 24 tracks of 24-bit or 16-bit recording and mixing. Up to three 888/24 I/O interfaces are supported, for 24 channels of input/output per core. Track count and I/O are expandable using expansion kits giving a minimum of 48 tracks and up to 72 I/Os.

Pro Tools 4.1 software adds several new features, including integrated support for the Mackie Designs' HUITM Controller. HUI, with the 4.1 software, provides integrated, tactile control over Pro Tools' recording, editing, mixing and TDM Plug-In functions. Digidesign's recently released Universal Slave Driver (USD) is also directly supported within version 4.1 software. This allows Pro Tools to sync to time code, video sync, composite video & bi-phase, quickly, accurately, and with ultra low jitter fidelity. The USD will also superimpose, or 'burn', a time code display window onto a video signal.

In keeping with Digidesign's long established upgrade policy, customers will find their Pro Tools investment solidly protected. Digidesign has created a generous hardware trade-in program for registered customers world-wide. No other product-line - at any price - includes such a comprehensive buy-back program. Tremendous customer loyalty stems from this policy and is a primary contributor to Digidesign's position as the digital audio workstation market leader.

Pro Tools 24 is available now, world-wide, for $7,995 (suggested US list price excluding audio interface); maintaining the remarkably affordable price point of Pro Tools III. Pro Tools III will continue in the product line at a newly reduced price of $4,995; an outstanding value for this expandable, 16-channel, 16-bit, recording, editing and mixing system. Customers who wish to upgrade, but have not registered with Digidesign, may contact their nearest Digidesign office for information.
