Liquid Audio Brings Internet Music Encoding and Publishing Capabilities to Digidesign Pro Tools

Liquifier Plug-In for world's most popular digital audio workstation is now available.

September 26, 1997 -- Liquid Audio(TM), the pioneering developer of secure Internet music delivery systems, today announced the availability of its Liquifier(TM) Plug-In for Pro Tools(R). Pro Tools, from Digidesign®, is the most widely used digital audio workstation for professional audio recording, editing and mixing. The Liquifier Plug-In is the first professional-quality mastering tool for preparing and publishing CD-quality, copyright protected music for delivery via the World Wide Web.

With the Liquifier Plug-In, audio engineers can first use Pro Tools for recording, editing and mixing their music, then use the Liquifier to encode the music for Internet streaming or download at multiple delivery rates. Users can also add media information such as liner notes, artwork and copyright information to be displayed on the consumer's Liquid MusicPlayer(TM). The final result is then quickly and easily published to the Liquid MusicServer(TM) in one compact file, known as a Liquid Track, ready for distribution via the Internet. The Liquifier is the only software plug-in available that uses Dolby(R) Digital encoding for the highest quality audio on the Net.

"Digidesign's Pro Tools is the de facto industry standard in recording studios, mastering studios, and post production facilities, and the Liquifier Plug-In further extends the capabilities of an already powerful system," said Scott Burnett, vice president of marketing for Liquid Audio. "With tens of thousands of Pro Tools users worldwide, our plug-in immediately enables the preparation of millions of music titles for Internet delivery. "

"Liquid Audio's solution for easily encoding music for the Internet is truly a breakthrough for the music industry and electronic music distribution, providing an important link between the professional audio industry and the Internet," said Chas Smith, vice president of sales and marketing for Digidesign. "The Liquifier Plug-In provides an elegant solution for preparing music for Internet delivery that integrates seamlessly within the Pro Tools environment. And because it is an AudioSuite(TM) Plug-In, it works with the complete line of Pro Tools products. Now anyone with a Power Macintosh can master their music for the Internet."

The Liquifier for Pro Tools is part of Liquid Audio's complete solution for secure Intern music delivery, designed to provide Internet audio mastering and distribution for music industry professionals. The Liquid MusicPlayer CD enables music fans to preview, purchase and download music on their desktop, and write the Liquid Track to a recordable CD. The Liquid MusicServer provides the server software for managing music distribution and tracking, including rights reporting.
