Opcode Releases fusion: VOCODE Effects Plug-In

First in a new series of cross-platform plug-ins.

September 26, 1997 -- If you think your mix might be lacking something, it probably is! In the vast digital wilderness of audio recording, wouldn't a really cool classic analog effect sound great? But... you record on a computer, and vintage technology has never really mixed well with computer-based recording-until now. Opcode's new fusion: VOCODETM launches the company's line of cross-platform DSP plug-ins, designed to add unique processing to mixes and music. VOCODE brings the classic analog vocoder effect onto the desktop.

Ideal for musicians, DJs, producers, engineers and sound designers, fusion: EFFECTS are an inexpensive way to tailor an individual sound and add texture to mixes. Whereas most plug-ins are simply software versions of traditional hardware boxes (i.e. EQ, reverb, chorus, delay etc.), Opcode's new fusion: EFFECTSTM offer processing that is not a basic "fix it" solution-odd, wacky and niche-type sounds not commonly found in hardware audio processors.

VOCODE will allow you to fuse one sound's personality with another's. By doing this, distinctive effects can be generated like guitar talkboxes, robot vocals or even pulsating rhythm parts derived from sustained chords. Taking the classic vocoder a step further, Opcode has also included control features not commonly found on analog boxes-including Level, Resonance, Depth and Mix-in addition to five-band tonal control. Select your own carrier wave or "construct" one with fusion: VOCODE's on-board synth. The VOCODE window has an extremely intuitive design, with an engaging user interface, making it a perfect fit for both professionals and home producers. Fusion: VOCODE has an MSRP of $149.95 and is available on a cross-platform CD-ROM.

"After listening to what fusion: VOCODE can do, you start to have visions of really cool mixes-I know I did!" says Paul de Benedictis, Vice President of Marketing Communications. "I think anyone who wants to stand out and be different with their music will love using the new fusion: EFFECTS series. Whether you have a Mac or PC, these plug-ins will help expand your creative palette."

The fusion: EFFECTS platform currently supports plug-in formats including Adobe Premiere, Audiosuite and Direct X Media, allowing all Fusion plug-ins to be compatible with the most popular music recording and sequencing software. A TDM version of VOCODE is currently in the design stage, with release date and pricing to be announced.

Those people recording with Opcode's VisionTM or Studio Vision ProTM and using fusion: EFFECTS will find they have a powerful combination, and quite possibly, the ultimate sequencer for the new rave of techno/dance music. The second plug-in for the fusion: EFFECTS line will be a vintage "Vinylize" program, due for release in October. VOCODE, VINYLIZE and all of the future fusion: EFFECTS plug-ins will be both Mac and PC compatible.
