Power Technology's Monolith(TM) Product Line Introduces Powerful New Multi-Track Recording & Effects Processing System

September 26, 1997 -- San Francisco: Power Technology, makers of the award-winning DSP*FX PC-based effects processing system, has addressed and anticipated the needs of PC-Digital Audio Workstation users and multi-track recording engineers with the introduction of DSP*FX Monolith(TM) and Monolith, Jr.(TM), multi-channel sound I/O and effects processing systems based on the award-winning DSP*FX-SC Sound & Effects Processing Card.

Monolith is a compact desktop box that connects to any PC or laptop computer without requiring any slots; it can be configured with from one to four DSP*FX-SC Sound Cards. Each card contains two channels of signal I/O in both analog and AES/EBU digital audio formats, and a dedicated 32 bit floating point DSP engine. A fully loaded system provides eight simultaneous ins & outs and up to 8 channels of studio quality effects processing.

As PCs begin the transition to the slot-less systems of the future, Power Technology's Monolith provides DSP+X-SC users with a powerful upgrade path. As the user's channel needs grow or as PC slot availablity becomes limited, the DSP*FX-SC cards can be moved into a Monolith system which is cabled back to the PC with the user's preferred interface. Monolith also uses an interchangeable interface card for connection to PC desktops or laptops - this allows Monolith to be upgraded to new interface standards such as USB and FireWire as audio applications are developed. The combination of Power Technology's award-winning studio quality effects with multiple channels of full width AES/EBU I/O make the Monolith arguably the highest quality PC DAW hardware interface on the market.

Monolith, Jr. is an economical compact desktop box similar to it's bigger brother, containing a single DSP*FX-SC card unit for use as an analog or digital, 2-in and out effects processing system. Monolith, Jr. connects to PC desktops or laptops using a serial port interface. As with all DSP-FX products, future upgradebility is an important point - Monolith Jr.'s DSP*FX-SC card can be moved into a full Monolith system as the user's needs grow.

Comments Dr. Paul F. Titchener, Power Technology president, "As we studied the direction of PC systems and technology, an external modular system like Monolith was the only approach that made sense to us. We think all slot-only based systems are dead-end technology, while Monolith lets our customers buy DSP-FX products with confidence that they can use and expand them for many years down the line."

Prices for the Monolith start at $1299 sugg. retail for single card systems. Monolith, Jr. has a suggested retail price of $1099.
