GT Electronics Introduces AM Series Microphones

New division of Alesis rolls out first products

AM51 AM52 AM61 AM62

September 26, 1998 -- Alesis Corporation introduces the first products of its new GT Electronics division. The AM Series, four new large-diaphragm studio condenser microphones, are being shown for the first time at the AES convention.

The AM51 (MSRP $549) and AM52 (MSRP $699) are Class A FET large-diaphragm condenser microphones. The solid-state field effect transistor (FET) circuitry in the AM51 and AM52 provide an extremely transparent representation of the acoustic signal, with no coloration and extremely low distortion and self-noise. The 3-micron, gold evaporated mylar diaphragm on the AM51 and AM52 offers excellent sensitivity and allows precise matching between pairs of mics.

Both microphones offer high sound pressure level (SPL) handling, a switchable - 10dB attenuation pad, and a switchable low frequency roll-off at 80Hz. The AM51 has a fixed Cardioid polar pattern response, while the AM52 offers three switchable polar patterns: Cardioid, Omni and Figure 8. The AM51 and AM52 include a custom hard-shell case and a hard mount.

The AM61 (MSRP $999) and AM62 (MSRP $1299) Tube condenser mics offer an extra- large capsule that protects its super-thin (3 micron) gold evaporated mylar diaphragm. Each diaphragm is precisely tensioned to ensure an extremely close matching of capsule response, and interacts with the internal polarization voltage regulator to allow for a matched response that's typically within one decibel between microphones.

The key element of the AM61 and AM62 is their custom-designed, hand-selected dual triode vacuum tube, which produces ultra-low self-noise, broad frequency response and wide dynamic range. The AM61 and AM62 include professional accessories such as a custom hard-shell case, external power supplies, shock mount, hard mount and a special 6-pin interconnect cable.

All of the AM Series microphones may be used for project and professional studio miking applications, such as female and male vocals, acoustic instrument miking, drum miking, amplifier cabinet miking and more.
