Software Update for M20 Recorder offers RS-422 9-Pin SynchronizationSeptember 26, 1998 --
Alesis announces the availability of version 2.0 software for the M20 Professional 20-Bit Digital Multitrack Recorder. This major software update includes the ability for M20 to act as a slave to devices using the RS-422 synchronization protocol with 9-pin interface, as well as other functional improvements.
According to Don Hannah, Alesis Marketing Manager - Recording Products, "Combined with the M20's heavy-duty transport, true jog/shuttle wheel and high resolution digital audio recording capabilities, the new 9-pin control support allows the M20 to be fully integrated into all post production, broadcast, and professional recording studio applications."
In addition to 9-pin support, the software update enables the user with a CADI Remote/Autolocator to offline the master machine (ID1) in a system of multiple M20s without affecting the clock and serial control of the remaining online slaves. In addition, the M20's tape counter now displays SMPTE from the tape's time code track as well as SMPTE relative to absolute time (ABS). The M20 can also now recognize tape time code gaps and discontinuities while locating or in fast-wind modes.
The software update is available at no charge to all registered M20 owners as a download from the Alesis Web site (www.alesis.com) or by contacting Alesis' technical support group at 1-800-5-ALESIS.
