Digidesign® Announces Pro Tools® 4.3 Upgrade

New context-sensitive editing tool, expanded machine control, DSP efficiency, and new bundled plug-ins

September 26, 1998 -- Digidesign® announces Pro Tools® software version 4.3 for PowerPC Macintosh systems, an upgrade providing several new major features, including a four-in-one SmartTool providing context-sensitive editing, MultiShell support for running multiple Plug-Ins on the same chip, several new DigiRack Plug-Ins, DigiSerial Port use for MachineControl and USD connectivity with the Pro Tools|24 product family and MachineControl track arming using Digidesign's MachineControl option.

The powerful four-in-one SmartTool feature lets users grab, select, trim and create fades or crossfades without switching tools. When this tool is selected, the cursor automatically switches its function according to the current cursor position. Version 4.3 also features several new DigiRack Plug-Ins, including TDM and AudioSuite versions of the all-new Dynamics II (compressor, limiter, gate and expander gate) and EQ II. The upgrade also introduces Digidesign's new MultiShell Plug-In capability for Pro Tools|24 MIX Core, MIX Farm and DSP Farm cards, enabling certain different types of Plug-Ins to share the same DSP chip simultaneously.

The MachineControl track arming feature enables remote arming of audio or video tracks by allowing users to set up track arming for 9-pin and V-LAN decks when using Digidesign's optional MachineControl software for Pro Tools. Version 4.3 also permits use of the Pro Tools|24 MIX Core, MIX Farm or d24 card's serial port instead of the computer's serial port when using either MachineControl or Digidesign's Universal Slave Driver.

Registered Pro Tools 4.2 users will automatically receive the upgrade free of charge. Users who do not have 4.2 can upgrade to version 4.3 for $149.
