EMU Announces Macintosh Driver Support for APS Card

September 26, 1998 -- EMU-ENSONIQ has announced that it plans to release software drivers to enable the Apple(R) MacintoshTM computer to make use of the EMU Audio Production Studio (APS), a PCI based sampling/hard disk recording card that features 64 voices of sampling or hard disk recording, builtin digital mixing, and hardware based effects. The card is physically compatible for both Mac and PC and is currently shipping as a PC product. Driver support will allow developers to target the APS hardware with their application software, and EMU will be enlisting the support of software developers beginning at the AES show.

APS will bring superior quality sampling and disk recording to Mac The APS drivers that are being announced will allow the Macintosh operating system, called Mac OSTM, to recognize and utilize the audio capabilities of the APS card on a low level. Software developers who write application software will then address these drivers allowing their applications to take advantage of the hardware's presence for sampling, hard disk recording, effects, and mixing.

"The Mac is certainly well established as an authoring platform for professional audio and music," states Denis Labrecque, Marketing Manager for the APS. "With this driver support in place, the Mac can enjoy the same success in people's bedrooms and in project studios as it does as a production tool in Hollywood. The exceptional sampling and hard disk recording technology with built in mixing and effects coupled with the Mac will make a lot of musicians happy" he concludes.
