Lucid Technology Launches ADA8824 8-channel, 24-bit A/D-D/A
September 26, 1998 -- Lucid Technology launches the ADA8824, an eight channel 24-bit A/D and D/A audio platform designed in cooperation with Sonic Solutions, a leading manufacturer of digital audio workstations and DVD systems. The ADA8824 provides users of SonicStudioTM workstations with 24-bit conversion of eight analog and digital channels transferred simultaneously. It is the only product of its kind featuring digitally controlled analog attenuators on both inputs and outputs, helping users realize maximum dynamic range from their SonicStudio systems. Conversion at full 24-bit resolution occurs in both analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog directions. Oversampling delta-sigma A/D converters yield dynamic range of 113dB. The internal A/D sample rate can be set at either 44.1kHz or 48kHz, or it can be locked to an external AES reference signal or word clock sync. The ADA8824 connects to SonicStudio's 16*24 card via rear panel Sonic USP I/O connectors. As the interface hub of a SonicStudio workstation, it offers eight analog XLR, eight digital AES-3 and two digital S/PDIF input and output channels. Its 2U rack-mount anodized aluminum chassis also features 15-segment LED ladders for high resolution I/O metering. The suggested US retail price of the ADA8824 is $3295.
