Minnetonka Announces SurCODE AC-3® Encoder for Dolby® Digital 5.1 SurroundSeptember 26, 1998 -- Minnetonka Audio Software has licensed AC-3 encoder technology from Dolby Labs for encoding 5.1 Surround Sound. "It is Minnetonka's goal to offer the recording engineer the most comprehensive array of software tools for Surround Sound Authoring," stated Minnetonka's president John Schur. "Since Dolby Digital is a well-established starndard for 5.1 Surround, we are pleased and excited to offer tools for Dolby encoding." Minnetonka's AC-3 encoder runs on a Windows platform. A simple user interface makes it easy to submit 6 .wav files for processing. The soundfiles can come from any surround sound authoring system that outputs .wav files in a 5.1 surround format. For engineers who are authoring Surround Sound using Mx51TM, Minnetonka is adding an interface for automatically submitting soundfiles to the AC-3 encoder during final mastering.
