SADiE Launches SADiE 24-96 Digital Audio Workstation at AES

September 26, 1998 -- Studio Audio & Video Ltd, designers and manufacturers of the renowned SADiE & Octavia Digital Audio Workstations announced the U.S. launch of their sensational brand new digital audio workstation, the SADiE 24-96. The system is capable of 192kHz editing and mixing, full surround sound, and may be configured to provide up to 32 inputs and outputs. The SADiE 24-96 DAW is available now world-wide and is shipping in the U.S.

The SADiE 24-96 is the latest system in the SADiE digital audio workstation range, and has been designed to be suitable for any audio editing application including film and TV post production, CD/DDP mastering, music editing, radio production, telecine transfer, speech editing, education and multimedia. Based around the Windows(TM) PC platform, the SADiE 24-96 cards are controlled by the powerful SADiE software. Each SADiE 24-96 PCI card is equipped with 8 inputs and 8 outputs and can replay 24 tracks of edited 16 bit audio. 20 bit analogue conversion is built into the system and external converters are provided for by AES/EBU digital I/O on every channel.

Support for 24 bit 96kHz and 192kHz audio is standard, making every SADiE 24-96 system DVD-ready. The 8 channels of I/O make the card perfect for surround sound editing and mixing, which is supplied as standard in the SADiE software. All internal audio processing utilises 32 bit floating-point accuracy, ensuring the highest possible sound quality throughout the system.

Included in every system is the CAT card, providing a timecode reader/generator and 4 channels of RS422 interface. The supplied Breakout Box 800 includes 8 channels of XLR digital I/O, XLR digital reference input, RS422 9-pin I/O, XLR timecode I/O and 8 channels of unbalanced analogue I/O. The optional Breakout Box 800B adds balanced XLR analogue inputs and outputs at all standard operating levels. Each SADiE 24-96 card includes an on-board SCSI interface for direct communication with audio disk storage, CDR or Exabyte drives.

Up to four cards may be linked together to provide a total of 32 inputs and outputs. The 8 I/O configuration may be purchased either as cards and software only or as a fully-configured rack mounting turnkey system. Multiple card systems (16 - 32 I/O) are supplied as fully configured rack mounting turnkeys.

Joe Bull, Managing Director of Studio Audio & Video commented, "With the SADiE 24-96 we have a cost effective solution to High-Density and surround audio whilst still providing excellent value for money for standard CD-quality productions. As with all of our professional products, we have assessed what the market requires and produced a tool that meets all the criteria."

"The SADiE 24-96 can work equally efficiently as an 8, 16 , 24 or 32 track machine or switch to High-Density audio as users' requirements change. For less than 6k pounds we have again produced a system that provides our customers with an open ended product that they can have confidence will meet their needs - not just today but in the future."

The SADiE 24-96 DAW exploits many new features in the SADiE 3 software. The latest version now includes full surround sound mixing facilities. This free software update allows the user to select between mono, stereo, LCR, LCRS and full 5.1 surround mixer strips. All types of strips can be freely assigned within the desk to maintain maximum flexibility. For example, voice tracks will normally be required in the centre channel only and therefore do not need the facility to pan-around that effects and music tracks may require. Full control of position, width and divergence are provided alongside a joystick mode that enables sounds to be easily positioned anywhere within the surround field.

The SADiE 3 software includes a true event based, sample accurate automation system. All of SADiE's mixer controls can be automated, including levels, positions, Eq. parameters, joystick position etc. More importantly, all automation data is locked not just to the event or clip but to the actual audio sample within that event. When a clip is moved, copied or edited, any automation data already written will be moved or copied alongside the audio itself.

All automation data can be displayed and edited graphically. SADiE also provides an easy interface for snapshot automation when you want a particular effect on one or more clips - for example adding telephone voice effects to every other clip on a stream using this feature couldn1t be easier.

SADiE 3 now includes full support for the new high density high resolution audio that is becoming necessary for DVD and other high quality formats. 24 bit digital editing and all sample rates up to 96kHz and even 192kHz have been added as a free upgrade within the software.
