September 26, 1998 -- The new 566 Vacuum Tube Compressor, dbx's latest "Silver Series" product offering, continues to carry the manufacturer's outstanding heritage further into the vacuum tube product arena.

The dual-channel 566 provides all the features one could possibly want in a compressor, including custom-designed analog VU meters that monitor tube level, gain reduction or output levels. The 566 Vacuum Tube Compressor has full sidechain functionality, including sidechain monitor, and dbx's unique Contour function, which allows low frequency material to pass through the threshold without triggering unmusical compression effects. Also included are the dbx OverEasy(R) threshold characteristics, and Auto attack and release. Line/instrument and mic inputs make the 566 versatile enough to use with virtually any source device. Additional amenities of note include a sidechain insert loop, True RMS Power SummingTM and the new patent-pending PeakPlusTM limiting topology.

Hand-selected premium 12AU7 vacuum tubes are utilized for triode gain matching, distortion, microphonics and drive characteristics. And with the optional dbx TYPE IVTM Conversion System output, users can translate the essence of tube processing directly into the digital world without leaving the box. The digital output offers the ability to communicate in either AES/EBU or S/PDIF at 16-, 20-, or 24-bit word lengths. TYPE IVTM also permits the ability to select noise shape algorithms and dither types that best suit user's music and medium.

The 566 also has all the rear panel versatility and connectivity that make it easy to set up and patch into any system. Gold-plated Neutrik(R) connectors for the audio ins and outs ensure solid connections and pristine sound every time. Separate 1/4" connectors for the sidechain sends and returns, as well as +4/-10 operating level switching make it a snap to use.

Behind the dbx 566's stunning 2U brushed-silver aluminum face is an all-metal chassis that is incredibly rugged and durable, while two solid handles on the front panel are offered for easy lifting and rack installation.

Suggested U.S. retail price on the dbx 566 is $999.95.
