New AKG C3000B Large Diaphragm Condenser Mic

September 28, 1999 -- AKG Acoustics today took the history of the large diaphragm cardioid condenser microphone to a new performance standard with the introduction of the new AKG C3000B. This newest large-diaphragm condenser microphone brings AKGs technical and design leadership to a higher level of performance, offering a most versatile product at the incredible price point of only $498. With the introduction of the new AKG C3000B, a "true" professional quality microphone is now affordable for all musicians and home recording hobbyists, while not compromising quality at all for the professional entertainer or professional studio.

The new C3000B from AKG offers a true large-diaphragm design, with a one-inch-diameter, six-micron-thick active-mylar diaphragm that has been precision designed for the ideal frequency response. This results in the warm, transparent "close-up" sound that has made AKG condenser microphones the leader in recording studios and critical live sound applications for over five decades.

The new C3000B is the latest product in an ongoing program started in the early 1990s that brings AKG's wealth of experience and expertise to the next generation of users. The new C3000B offers more high performance features, at an affordable price point, than any other large-diaphragm condenser microphone on the market. At the heart of the C3000B is AKG's next-generation one-inch backplate condenser capsule, crafted from gold-sputtered mylar for optimum transient response. This new cardioid pattern capsule is housed in an internal suspension cradle, providing maximum internal shock isolation. It is carefully engineered for internal damping of low resonant frequencies caused by mechanical and handling noises. This design delivers the rare combination of absolutely quiet performance and optimal frequency response.

Other features of the new AKG C3000B include a switchable 10dB internal pad for use in high SPL environments and a 12dB-per-octave low-frequency cut to tune out unwanted low frequencies, making the C3000B most versatile. Its features and performance make the C3000B applicable for everything from home studio to high-end studio environments to live sound. Performance is further enhanced via an integrated heavy-duty wire grille, which protects the capsule assembly from particle damage. An internal sheath of wire mesh isolates the capsule from electrostatic and electromagnetic interference. Furthermore, a 3mm-thick internal windscreen protects the capsule from subtle "pops" without undesired high frequency attenuation. The rugged housing is built to last with a two-piece, heavy duty body that protects all internal components. Internally, the C3000B also includes the latest generation of Surface Mount (SMD) Technology that insures the microphone's electrical and mechanical stability. Additionally, all electrical contacts, including the XLR connector, are gold-plated to resist aging and corrosion.

The AKG C3000B comes complete with the H100 spider suspension mount, optimally isolating the microphone from additional external mechanical and handling noises.

The new AKG C3000B is an achievement in performance and cost-effectiveness and is priced with a suggested retail price of only $498.
