MP3 Export Added to Pro Tools 5.0September 24, 1999 -- In support of emerging industry standards for internet distribution of audio content, Digidesign introduces MP3 Export as a new, fully integrated option for Pro Tools v5.0 and Pro Tools LE v5.0. This software option lets users export and/or bounce audio to the popular MP3 file format in the simple and familiar Pro Tools operating environment. MP3 Export is based on the superior compression technology of Germany's Fraunhofer Institute. "MP3 is a growing technology standard for storing and distributing audio, and is revolutionizing the way we share and consume audio of every type," remarks Ed Gray, manager of Digidesign's Development Partners Program. "MP3 Export for Pro Tools v5.0 takes the high fidelity compression technology developed by Fraunhofer Institute and implements it as a user-friendly export option that any Pro Tools user can take advantage of right out of the box. It features the very latest encoding technology from Fraunhofer Institute, offering dramatic improvements in processing speed, enhanced processing quality and support of constant bit rate (CBR) and variable bit rate (VBR) encoding at bit rates of up to 320 kbps, " says Gray. A 30-day fully functional preview version of MP3 Export is available on the Installer Disk supplied with Pro Tools v5.0 software, available mid-November. Users who wish to purchase the option will be able to download it from Digidesign's website for the purchase price of $19.95 (US). MP3 Export is available in mid-November initially for Mac OS only.
