Focusrite Launches ISA 430 "Producers Pack"

(Click for a close-up)

September 24, 1999 -- Based on the classic ISA Range, first introduced by Rupert Neve in 1985 (ISA stands for Input Signal Amplifier),the ISA 430 "PRODUCERS PACK" brings together the key audio processing elements into one unit, to be used either together as one "super channel" or as separate processing elements.

This 2U unit comprises the following stages:

Classic Focusrite transformer-coupled microphone pre-amplifier stage plus line and instrument inputs with phantom power and phase reverse with direct output. Original ISA 110 parametric EQ, as currently featured in the Focusrite ISA 215.

Compressor and Expander / Gate:

Featuring proprietory Class A VCA and sidechain circuit as used in the vintage ISA 130.

De-esser:

An opto-based design using an EQ-based subtractive circuit which is less intrusive on non-sibilant frequencies.

Multi- band Limiter:

A 3-band limiter providing true, distortion-free limiting. Optional 24bit / 96kHz digital output stage.

Routing and monitoring:

The discrete insert send and return may be placed before EQ and Dynamics stages, between the two or after both. Each band of the EQ can be routed into the sidechain of the compressor and /or gate for accurate drum gating or frequency selective compression. The classic analogue VU meter may be switched to display input, insert return or gain-reduction level. "Listen" mode allows monitoring of the sidechains of the compressor, Gate, Limiter and De-esser so that accurate frequency adjustment can be made when tailoring the various dynamic effects.

Single or Split modes:

The unit may be used as a single signal path or split, to allow the insert send and return connections to act as independent input and output to and from the EQ, simultaneously. An external input can be summed into the output stage to allow reverb etc. to be mixed into the processed signal before recording. The analogue output stage is, of course, the classic transformer based design found in all classic Rupert Neve designs contributing the " warm yet transparent " sonic signature for which Focusrite has become famous.

Stereo A/D:

The digital output stage (AES/EBU,SPDIF & TOS) offers 44.1 - 96kHz operation, sample rate selection and external wordclock. It may be used as an independent stereo A/D converter via the Line and External inputs via the (stereo) multiband limiter.
