B-Band
An interesting solo acoustic guitarist at the B-Band booth, J. M. Herrmann, played two Martin guitars. One was set up for slide, with a raised nut and altered tuning. The other was set up normally and in standard tuning.
Hermann has a furious and dynamic style; his right hand sported plastic finger picks, which he used to pick, strum, slap, and even fingertap the notes. The result was an impressive orchestration of melody, chords, and bass lines on a single instrument. While the fingertapping sounded dated and a bit contrived, it did demonstrate the sensitivity and dynamics of the B-Band products. And what exactly does B-Band offer? It's an under-the-bridge mounted pickup, which is claimed to rival a piezo/onboard condenser microphone combination. Hermann also used B.Band's onboard condenser mic and B-Band's Entity external preamp/mixer. The system succeeded in conveying the subtleties of Hermann's techniques, yet it could handle his more aggressive attacks on the strings as well. The whole setup would cost $239.99 U.S. for the piezo/condenser mic, plus $469.99 for the external preamp. www.b-band.com, 358-14-261-545 |
