Gougi Guitars

Luthier Fabrice Gougi has developed a truly unusual line of acoustic/electric instruments. The body of his guitar is basically a hollow outline, with two pieces of blonde wood - spruce, usually - just wide enough to support the bridge from the middle and act as a soundboard. On the underside of this soundboard rests a high-end Schertler transducer, as you would find on an expensive violin or cello.

Everything from the ebony fretboard and headstock design to the hardwood body is left naked, with only a satin finish for protection. These visuals are difficult to explain, but there's no denying that these instruments are unique, organic in appearance, and a lively option for the serious acoustic/electric player.

At the moment Gougi makes all these instruments himself, in small quantities. Still, he encourages potential American customers to contact him.
