Ibanez
If you're an electric player who also uses an acoustic onstage, consider Ibanez's Double Edge guitars. Other solidbody electrics have built-in piezo pickups, but the piezos in this line are built into a Floyd Rose-style trem system. Ibanez officials told Harmony Central that years of R&D were needed to figure out how to isolate the piezo transducers so they don't make noise when you rest your hand on the bridge to mute the strings. Separate outputs are another useful feature, in that they allow you to send your electric signal to the amp and your acoustic signal to the mixing board or your acoustic amp. A toggle switch lets you select one, the other, or both in tandem, thus eliminating any need to purchase an external switching device. Live demonstrations by Ibanez endorser Thomas Reipl confirmed that the unit sounds quite realistic. Though company officials didn't have official U.S. prices handy, they said that retail prices for the various models range approximately from $1,499 to $1,650. www.ibanez.com, 215-638-8670 |
