RME Hammerfall DIGI9636

The German company announced at the Messe that its digital multitrack hardware, Project Hammerfall, now ships in a Light version. DIGI9636 offers 2xADAT optical, 1xS/PDIF, 24-bit/96kHz support, and an ADAT sync input. Though essentially identical to the original Hammerfall, it does not include an expansion board with a third ADAT port and a WordClock I/O. But all other features of the Hammerfall are present, including 0% CPU load and 96kHz operation on the ADAT optical ports.

In principle, the Light can be used with the same drivers as the full version. Still, RME has released new drivers with dedicated support for both types of cards. Mixed operation in every possible combination is also supported.

Additionally, the DIGI9636 can easily be turned into a fully equipped DIVGI9652. The optional DIGI9636 EX expansion board includes EPROM and cable.

Suggested retail for the DIGI9636 is $635; the expansion board lists at $190. Both products are available now.
