Originally shown at NAMM, TC Electronics Finalizer 96K has been upgraded to perform full up- and down-sampling. "Being able to enter and exit at any sample rate, making even asynchronous conversion possible, is essential when you're working with and in different rates," said product manager Uffe Kjems Hansen. "If, for instance, you want to work with old or already finished material, you now have the ability to up-sample it to 96kHz through the Finalizer and re-master it. The up-sample option also makes you well prepared for the DVD or super-CD audio format coming up in the near future."
Features in the Finalizer 96K include 24 bit/96kHz resolution A/D and D/A converters, uncorrelated stereo dithering, correlated mono dithering, and inverse dithering for interfacing between various types of other digital audio equipment. A new three-band stereo width control has been added as well. The Finalizer 96K now has an enhanced dynamic range and a significantly more advanced set of features than the original processors. These include: WordClock input via BNC for post-production users; a stable digital clock for jitter-free digital I/O (AES/EBU or S/PDIVF inputs may also act as the master clock); an ADAT I/O port for direct analog-to-lightpipe stereo conversion (also usable to process any two source tracks and send them out to any two destination tracks); a Tos-link optical I/O; dynamic filtering; multiple simultaneous inserts (parametric EQ, dynamic EQ, de-essing-with variable Q, MS encode/decode, digital radiance generator, stereo adjust and external device insert, L-R balance, and more). Perhaps the coolest of these features is the ability to insert external analog equipment into an all-digital path, which lets you insert your vintage gear into the Finalizer digital chain, as well as the ability to insert external digital equipment into an all-analog path, which allows using another AES or S/PDIF processor with the Finalizers analog I/O.
