Prosoniq sonicWORX 2.0

Scheduled to ship in April 2000, sonicWORX 2.0 updates this German company's stereo editing program for the Macintosh. It's available in several different flavors, which differ according to the processes they offer: sonicWORX artist, for example, is restricted to off-line processing, while the Studio and Powerbundle offer real-time processing.

One nice improvement involves the addition of user interface enhancements, such as transport commands in the toolbar. sonicWORX 2.0 users will now be able to load VST plug-ins along with the DSP processes now being offered; these include an output dithering/noise-shaping/requantization module, a real-time FFT analyzer, a parametric EQ, and a signal generator. Among the enhancements to existing modules, it's worth noting that the multiband compressor now offers comprehensive settings for each of the four bands. One nice option is the "control room module," which lets you set an output volume for monitoring independently from the processes going on in the program.

sonicWORX Artist lists at $170, sonixWORX Studio at $535, and sonixWORX bundle, featuring Artist and Studio, at $595. Updates will be made available free of charge.
