The upcoming Sequoia audio editing system is based on the German manufacturer's Samplitude and Red Roaster applications. Sequoia offers 32-bit floating point data format and supports 96kHz and 192kHz sample rates.

Highlights include its 4-Point-Cut mode, in which the lower half of the screen displays the source material, and the upper half displays the destination tracks. This allows the user to navigate and play back the source and destination sections independently. Sequoia even enables users to make four-point cuts between different projects windows - from one or more sound files directly into any multitrack project, for example. A real-time crossfades editor is included as well.

Sequoia can be used in small peer-to-peer networks as well as in larger server-based networks, such as Novell Netware or Windows NT. Features include shared access to audio data, backup solutions, and playback within the network. The program also offers administration functionalities for multi-user operation (broadcast or studio applications), which can be used to set up custom function sets, shortcuts, and other options for each user. Once the program is started, it automatically presents the user with his or her own personal desktop.

The Comparisonics representation mode uses a patented algorithm to apply different colors to the sonic material, depending on the pitch and additional parameters. Low notes, for example, will get shades of blue, while high notes are colored green, yellow, and red. Material with timbered content will be displayed clearly, while noise will be greyed. This makes it possible to detect interferences that could escape detection if only a waveform display were used.

Depending on the user's system configuration, TrackSPEED technology can double available tracks on Sequoia and free up resources that can then be allocated to DSP effects. When more than 30 stereo tracks are used, computing performance will still be available for track EQ and such mastering effects as multiband dynamics. TrackSPEED also allows instant start/stop commands, with zero load time, as well as direct scrubbing on all tracks, forward and backward.

Hardware features include balanced I/O on a 19" external rack, 24-bit/96kHz A/D and D/A converters, a 32-bit internal digital mixer/patchbay, four vbalanced analog I/O for eight virtual stereo tracks, stereo AES/EBU or S/PDIF digital interface, a MIDI interface with 128-byte RAM, a Multicard Mode with sample-accurate synchronization, and drivers for Windows 95, 98, and NT.

Pricing and shipping dates will be announced.
