Virus Rack

German company Access was also infected with update fever. Not so much a sequel as a Special Edition, the Access Virus Indigo is essentially a Virus b inside a stunningly beautiful silver aluminum 37-note keyboard with ice-cold blue LEDs. The synth-action keyboard sports velocity sensitivity and aftertouch, and in addition to the regular six outputs and stereo inputs, there are two control pedal inputs. Also included will be Emagic Sounddiver editor/librarian software for Mac or Windows. The Indigo will ship with Virus OS 4.0, which has new features such as Groove Delay, enhanced reverb, surround sound capability, several effects-related features, and more.

Virus Indigo

To round out the menagerie of Virus beasts, Access also unveiled the Virus Rack, which is a Virus synth packed into a silver, one-rack space box. Its five knobs control seven sets of key parameters, to give you quick command of 35 of the synth's most important functions. A front-panel audio input provides a convenient way to route any signal through the Virus Rack's filter, vocoder, effects, etc. The V Rack will also ship with Virus 4.0 OS and Emagic Sounddiver. The company guys told us that both Virus models would be shipping by summertime. The list prices, converted from German marks, come to roughly $950 for the Virus Rack and $1,850 for the Virus Indigo. Beware, however, the mighty disclaimer from Access: "preliminary information, subject to change without notice."
