Red Sound Systems
Continuing in the vein of swanky analog simulation synths is the Darkstar from Red Sound Systems in Great Britain. It's an attractive tabletop unit with an attractive price to match. With eight-voice polyphony and five multitimbral parts, it's pretty versatile for its $450 price tag. You get plenty of real-time control over the two ocsillators, two envelopes, two LFOs, and resonant filter, plus Red Sound's trademark joystick can be assigned to filter and resonance or oscillator mix and ring modulation. Stereo inputs and MIDI in, out, and thru top it off, and the synth is upgradable to include a vocoder and other functions. The Darkstar is now shipping.
