Steinberg WaveLab 2.0 ShippingMastering Software Update for Windows 95/NT
March 11, 1998 -- The latest version of Steinberg's audio editing and mastering program for Windows 95/NT - WaveLab 2.0 is shipping. WaveLab 2.0 now offers direct Sampler Support with detailed looping functions, enabling processed recordings to be transferred directly as samples into an appropriate device. For this WaveLab uses the actual sample driver created by the Re-Cycle team Propellerheads. Furthermore, the audio file analysis and editing functions have been completely revised. Using the new Marker function you can now create a number of different "edits" of a particular title for CD production, without having to generate a completely new file each time. WaveLab 2.0's open PlugIn architecture now also supports VST PlugIns, enabling, for example, the inclusion of PlugIns in batch-processing tasks. Good news for mastering studios is the new analysis functionality, enabling problems such as hidden clicks or distortion, which can occur during audio file import, to be automatically detected, making the restoration of long and complex audio files much quicker. Once work is completed, files can now be exported to ExaByte cartridges, with the help of an optional Exa-Byte driver. WaveLab 2.0 also includes two new PlugIns: Peakmaster for adding a soft, real-time compression to recordings, and a Puncher for giving more attack to over-compressed rhythmic material. WaveLab 2.0 now supports an additional file format - MPEG 1 Layer 3 - making the publication of music on the Internet a breeze. The update from WaveLab Version 1.6 to Version 2.0 will be available from March. For more information, visit their web site at www.steinberg.net.
