TC Creates Mastering Plug-In For Pro Tools

March 11, 1998 -- TC WORKS announces MasterX, the first ever TC-Multiband Dynamics Processing Plug-In for Pro Tools TDM systems. MasterX features integrated multiband expansion, compression and limiting, all optimized for mastering applications. An intuitive user interface provides a stream-lined approach to dynamics processing featuring many new ideas to make this critical process faster and easier.

MasterX expedites the mastering process by integrating several phases of mastering into a single, easy to use interface. Crossover-points and Gain Adjust for each of the 3 bands in MasterX are configured via a large graphic display, allowing instant access and visual feedback. The overall processing characteristics are controlled via "Target Curves" that simplify the set-up process by pre-selecting a global style for the bands. The interaction between the bands can be fine tuned by applying "Target Factors" which determine the frequency focus of each processing module, and also reduce the number of required user parameters significantly. MasterX includes accurate level metering with clipping counters and peak hold indicator. A digital ceiling parameter allows the user to precisely limit the maximum volume for mastering CDs, or other types of applications where brick-wall limiting is required. A "Look Ahead" feature allows MasterX to "look into the near future" of a recording for sudden anomalies in the program material, and to ensure that they won't create any audible artifacts.
