Yamaha Unveils DTXPRESS at MusikMesse

March 3, 1999 -- There was a surprise at the Yamaha booth this year as the new DTXPRESS electronic drum kit and module made an early and unexpected debut. The complete set is expected to cost less than $1000, and the module alone will available for less than $500. The system should be shipping by the end of March.

Many of the sounds inside the DTXPRESS sound module are completely new and never before released in another product. Over 1000 sounds are included in total, with 48 preset drum kits and 95 preset songs. Of course, if that's not enough for you, the DTXPRESS can be expanded with an external MIDI sound module or use its "To Host" connector to link up directly with your computer - no MIDI interface required. With the right software, you can then edit performance or sequencer data for the DTXPRESS sound module from the computer, or use it as a general purpose tone generator for your computer.

The complete DTXPRESS drum kit includes five TP60 drums pages (toms, snare, and hi-hat), two PCY60 cymbal pads, one KP60 kick pad, and one HH60 hi-hat controller. Yamaha will also offer the RS60 rack system for mounting all the hardware, plus drum triggers for connecting your acoustic drums to the system.
