EBS-1 Version Two Bass Preamp

July 12, 1996 -- Developed by bass players for bass players, the EBS-1 Version Two is a unique bass preamp that gives bassists the possibility to modify and route their signal in countless ways. The heart of the EBS-1V2 is its comprehensive filter section. In the filter's "ACTIVE" position, bassists can build their sound based strictly on the unit's sweepable Low, Middle and High EQ controls (with no sound produced when all EQ levels are turned down all the way). Thanks to auto-compensated filters, the user can easily move around the frequency bands while maintaining a constant volume. The "BYPASS" position bypasses all filtration, leaving the sound flat and uncolored, while the "MIX" position combines a preset amount of the bypassed signal with the filters, which may then be added to the flat signal. A "BRIGHT" filter is also available to add clarity.

The preamp's input is able to Phantom Power active basses, eliminating battery hassles, and is adjusted and optimized to work with all types of basses and pickups, be they acoustic, upright, vintage electric or high-tech.

When the user turns up the "COMP/LIMIT" knob halfway, a slight peak limiting function is provided that becomes more compressor-like as the level in increased. The compression is very low-noise and works fast throughout the entire frequency spectrum without changing the sound.

A popular feature among sound technicians, a front panel XLR balanced output can be set pre or post EQ/compressor, or even post-effects loop. This allows the EBS-1V2 to not only patch into mixing consoles, but directly into multitrack tape recorders as well. Ground lift, signal strength selection and mute are also provided.

Additional features include: 112dB dynamic range; extremely quick transient response; stereo effects loop; 24dB per octave crossover; six independent outputs (including headphone); moving-dot VU meter for maximizing S/N Ratio and Headroom; Peak LEDs for input, filter and compressor; and vibration-resistant, light-weight chassis.
