Ampeg AUB-2 Horizontal Bass Reissue
July 11, 1997 -- Ampeg announced that it is shipping their new hand-made, Horizontal Bass, a modern reissue of the famous 1960s four-string thumper. The AEB-2 Horizontal Bass and its fretless cousin, the AUB-2 may look like pretty reissues, but are really entirely new and modern instruments. The scroll headstock is carved from solid maple (as is the neck), unlike the plastic end caps sported by the original model. A brass nut adorns the current instrument whereas an aluminum string spacer resided on the '60s model. Today's AEB-2 & AUB-2 have a 35" scale, an inch longer than the original. The Western Ash body is available with a sunburst, black or natural polyurethane finish. The pickup on the AEB-2 was designed by whiz Rick Turner, and gives the bass its unique vintage tone while expanding its sonic capabilities from a warm, thunderous growl to clear, ringing overtones. Other features on the Ampeg Horizontal bass include ebony fingerboard, Schaller tuners, brass bridge and chrome or gold hardware. An optional padded bag or hard shell case are also available. Ampeg inventor Everett Hull was dedicated to improving the performance and sound of the bass. It is in this tradition that Ampeg has incorporated the Horizontal Bass instrument line into its current product offering. These basses are custom set-up and serialized to ensure long-term collection value. For more information, visit their web site at www.ampeg.com .
