BSS Audio Announces OMNIDRIVE Compact Signal Processor
July 11, 1997 --
BSS Audio announces the introduction of the FDS-355 OMNIDRIVE COMPACT, a smaller, more flexible and less-expensive version of its highly successful FDS-388 OMNIDRIVE, the industry standard in live sound control.
Occupying just a single rack space, the OMNIDRIVE COMPACT is designed to accommodate the specific needs of the MI market's live sound applications. In addition to the main features of the standard OMNIDRIVE system -- including two-band parametric EQs, delays (variable up to 650 ms), mid-filter speaker-protecting limiters and a large instantly recallable system memory -- the OMNIDRIVE COMPACT offers users a comprehensive array of features designed for smaller market applications. These include:
- A third input and fifth output -- these new I/Os allow tremendous flexibility in configuring speaker set ups, including a simple stereo two-way system, a five-way mono system, an auxiliary channel for subs, as well as functioning as a dual bi-amp crossover with delay, limiters and EQ for stage monitoring.
- More EQ flexibility -- the OMNIDRIVE COMPACT allows the user to flexibly place multiple blocks of EQ which can then be used for input EQ, system EQ, horn compensation or room contouring, in the process eliminating the need for a separate room EQ.
- A 24-bit A-D converter offers improved dynamic range -- A new BSS technique combines system software and hardware to optimize the performance of the output converters, ensuring that the D-A is always operating at full range and minimizing converter noise regardless of the system's operating level.
- Improved headroom management -- a new limiter provides faster response to peaks and transients, better protecting loudspeakers with virtually no reduction in acoustical power.
- Flash EPROMs for simple system upgradability -- all operating software is stored on flash EPROMs, allowing fast, easy upgrades via PC card, from a PC via the MIDI port, or via RS-232 ports. Updates will also be available from BSS' World Wide Website.
- Many other features -- Full security for the 50-point internal memory... familiar and very user-friendly interface with rotary knob and custom LCD with the brightest graphics in the business... polarity reverse on each output..
"The OMNIDRIVE COMPACT brings the high level of functionality of the famous BSS OMNIDRIVE to an entirely new market at an entirely new price point," explained Paul Freudenberg, National Sales & Marketing Manager, BSS Audio. "It reflects BSS Audio's commitment to bringing the best control of live sound to every level of the pro audio market."
