Denon DN-M1050R MiniDisc Recorder/Player

July 11, 1997 -- Denon Electronics has recently introduced its DN-M1050R MiniDisc Recorder and Player.

Engineered for recording and broadcast production studio environments, a comprehensive list of editing functions is provided on the DN-M1050R, including Divide (smallest edited unit is one frame, or 11.6 msec), Erase Track/Disk, Combine, Move and Track/Disc Name (up to 255 characters can be used for each name). An external IBM compatible keyboard (P/S 2) can be used to perform playback, recording, program input, editing and other operations.

Cue signal points can be recorded (up to five points per track) at desired points on a disc for quick referencing. A cue tally signal is output from the parallel remote terminal at cue signal points during playback and can be used to control other devices. This function is also convenient when setting points for A-B playback. Cue points are accessed by turning the selector knob while the Cue Search button is on.

A-B sections can be erased--a convenient function when simultaneously repeating the Divide and Track Erase operations--as well as inserted at any point within any track. Cue signals can additionally be easily edited. While editing, an "Undo" function allows up to the last three editing operations to be undone.

An optional Hot Start feature can be added allowing up to 20 tracks to be loaded into memory locations for instant playback at the touch of a key on a parallel remote, serial remote or external keyboard. Sound can be loaded into Hot Start from any track location, and loaded tracks may continually be replaced with new tracks. Seamless Loop can be used during Hot Start playback.

The Auto Level Record Start function automatically starts the recording operation when an audio signal level from an external unit connected to the DN-M1050R exceeds the user-specified preset level between -36 to -72 dB.

The machine's U-TOC recording method is user-selectable. In Manual mode, the U-TOC is automatically recorded when a disc is ejected after recording or editing. In Auto mode, the U-TOC is recorded each time recording or editing is performed.

Several additional options will soon also be offered by Denon, including an FS Converter I/O Kit for compatibility with at 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz digital sampling rates, as well as a SMPTE Kit which will enable the DN-M1050R to support Video Sync/Word Sync and Sony Serial Protocol.
