Drawmer Announces MX50 Dual De-Esser
July 26, 1999 -- Recording engineers and audio purists in recording studios around the world now have a new weapon in their arsenal of equipment aimed at maximizing vocal quality. The Drawmer MX50 Dual De-Esser is designed to reduce the distortioncausing sibilant peaks caused by EQ settings used to take care of timbre and levels. The MX50 solves the sibilant peak problem while leaving the remainder of the signal unchanged. It ensures that engineers can capture the vocal sounds they strive for, without the compromises of unwanted peaks. The MX50's variable frequency in the 800Hz to 8Khz range captures the full sibilant range including 'hardsounding' harmonics and related side effects that can be generated when treble frequencies are boosted to brighten the lower vocal levels. In addition, the component's variable De-Ess feature affords a wide range of control independent of the signal level. This maintains a sibilant level, which matches the signal-even in subtle, quiet passages of the recording. In addition, a push button switch allows the user to alternate between Full and Split Band DeEssing. Full Band reduces the total signal level in response to signals in the selected frequency band. Split Band only reduces selected frequencies - leaving lower frequencies exactly as they were. This innovative function is particularly applicable for reducing string noise on guitars and minimizing breath noises on flutes or composite material. OUTPUT SECTION: Adds the three-bands back together. BAND SUMMING OUTPUT STAGE: With three-band level controls. Includes Auto Fader, with adjustable fade time and a choice of three fade shapes. Truncation and rounding to 8, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24-bit with three dither options at up to 48K and one at 96K. Factory and user patches stored internally and/or on a plug-in RAM card. MIDI port for external control included. Future upgrades to include an outboard interface between a DC2476 and a PC for downloading product upgrades via the Web. All functions are available at 96K - you lose nothing. For more information, visit www.transaudiogroup.com.
