Fender Introduces New Deluxe Fat Strats

Deluxe Fat Strat Deluxe Double Fat Strat

July 24, 1999 -- Fender introduces two new Stratocasters(R) this summer that are guaranteed to deliver extreme tones with a definite 1970's vibe: The Deluxe Fat Strat(R) and the Deluxe Double Fat Strat(R). For years, guitarists have been adding humbucking pickups to their guitars as an after-purchase modification, combining the punch of a humbucker with the classic single-coil tone of a Strat. It is for this reason that Fender now offers its newly designed humbucker as a standard feature on these new Strats, resulting in a guitar that is best summed up with one word ... Fat!

For the Deluxe Fat Strat, the humbucker in the bridge position offers even more power and versatility to Fender's signature guitar. On the Deluxe Double Fat Strat, Fender has gone one step further by installing yet another humbucker in the neck position. In addition, the Fat Strats special 5-way switching allows for a broad spectrum of humbucking and single-coil tones, making possible a number of different pickup combinations. Add to both of these Fender's large headstock with the Fender "Transition" logo, and you've got two guitars that recall the sound, look and feel of the 1970's.

Both the Deluxe Fat Strat and Deluxe Double Fat Strat will be produced at Fender's own state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, and will be the latest additions to Fender's Deluxe series of guitars. These new Strats are made with a poplar body, and feature a maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. The neck's radius is 9.5", and comes with 21 medium jumbo frets. The Deluxe Fat Strat has an American-made Fender Tex-Mex- humbucker pickup in the middle position, and Fender Tex-Mex "flat" pole-piece single coil pickups in the neck and bridge positions. The Deluxe Double Fat Strat has two American-made Fender Tex-Mex humbucker pickups, one each in the neck and bridge positions. These new Strats are also standard equipped with a black/white/black pickguard, black plastic parts, Fender Super Bullet 3250L strings, and a deluxe gig bag. Available colors are Black or Arctic White. U.S. MSRP for the Deluxe Fat Strat is $599.99, and for the Deluxe Double Fat Strat is $649.99.
