GVOX Enhances Passport Encore for Mac with New Features

July 26, 1999 -- GVOX showcased the latest version of its awardwinning music notation software at the NAMM Summer Session in Nashville . The new Passport Encore 4.2.1 for Mac boasts an enhanced user interface and features that make it even easier for music teachers, band instructors and professional musicians and composers to create choral and orchestral arrangements, motion picture scores or any composition that requires professional arranging.

"Passport Encore for Mac 4.2.1 is loaded with new features that give those who need to compose or arrange a score more flexibility to make staffs look the way they want, as well as increase their level of productivity," said John Lewis, GVOX product manager. "The Mac market is experiencing a resurgence, and this product enhancement reaffirms GVOX's commitment to that market and to developing products that serve the needs our education customers. It also shows that GVOX will continue to support and further develop the Passport product line."

Passport Encore 4.2.1 provides improved MIDI implementation including support for the latest version of Open Music System (OMS). It also is fully compatible with the most recent versions of the Mac operating systems. New product features enable users to:

  • select multiple measures vertically, as opposed to just horizontally;
  • have up to five lines in a staff name and control name placement;
  • change angled beams to run in a straight, horizontal line
  • add accents, trills or other symbols to multiple notes at once, which automatically appear in their proper position;
  • add and change bar lines to each measure within a selected range, including non-adjacent measures;
  • change beamed notes'. stem heights from the Change Note Attribute dialog; and
  • add an outline to a text box and change several of its properties.

In addition, the Refresh Score command, which previously was available only on the Toolbar, is now conveniently located on the View menu, and the Staff Sheet window stays on the screen when clicking the score and only minimizes or closes upon command.

"Passport Encore has a large customer base, including several major motion picture studios which have used the product to compose and score a number of popular movie soundtracks," stated Lewis. "Our customers, including these studios, asked for changes to this product, and we are proud to give them what they wanted."

Passport Encore 4.2.1 for Mac will be available in August at GVOX's Web site, www.gvox.com, and at leading music and computer retailers for a suggested retail price of $599.99. Registered Passport Encore users can upgrade to version 4.2.1 for $59.99. GVOX will provide a free upgrade to registered users who purchased Passport Encore between May 1 and Sept. 1, 1999.
