February 15, 2000 -- E-MU / ENSONIQ® has announced the Xtreme Lead XL-1, a 64 note polyphony NUDI sound module targeted to the high energy Dance music scene. The XL-1 features 32MB sound ROM full of cutting edge synth sounds, with 12th order filters, user programmable arpeggiators, and a new "Super Beats" mode which provides dynamic control over 16 independent rhythm tracks. The product is packaged in a bright orange, single rack space package with 12 real time assignable front panel controllers. The product is available starting in February, and has a US retail price of $895.

The XL-1 features sounds from some of the best producers from Europe and America, covering a wide range of styles. The ample 32MB ROM set has leads, pads, analog synths, deep basses, drum kits, hits, signature E-MU Wall and Edge sounds. Not only are the sounds representative of the high energy dance music scene, but the XL-1 features 1T h order filters, user programmable arpeggiators, a flexible patch cord architecture, and 12 front panel real time controls with which to control the sounds. And the 64 voice polyphony makes XL-1 much more than a lead synth, in fact, entire dance productions can be done using this sound module alone.

It is fully upgradable, allowing the user to add one additional 32MB sound ROM from the selection of ROMs now available for the Proteus@ 2000 sound module. In addition, the company has announced a hardware upgrade program consistent with its historical emphasis on long term value that allows the user to upgrade the hardware motherboard to have 128 voices of polyphony, 4 ROM expansion slots, 6 outputs + digital output, and an additional 16NEDI channels. The company also stated that the operating system software in the unit is field upgradable over the Internet, allowing XL-1 users to take advantage of enhancements to the software when they become available.
