The New FV-3 Violin From Fender

Fender FV-3

February 3, 2000 -- Last January, Fender re-introduced the music world to the latest version of its classic FV-1 violin.

This January, Fender takes it one step further with its FV-3 - a new electric violin with sunburst finish and multiple cream-colored binding. But even more than its new look, the FV-3 comes with a deluxe case outfit for the performing and traveling violinist. This deluxe case outfit will feature an upgraded hard shell, a hygrometer, space for four bows and a tube to hold high quality replacement strings. Also included with the case outfit are a chinrest and a hex-shaped horsehair bow.

As for Fender's new violin itself, it is designed for traditional and bluegrass violinists who want a more modern instrument that will expand their palate and enable them to explore different sounds. While it is electric, it differs from the many so-called "silent" electric violins available on the market. The chambered body of the Fender FV-3 allows it to resonate as a truly acoustic instrument would, offering good tone while practicing un-amplified.

The new Fender FV-3 also has the latest in piezo pickup technology, offering players a wider range of amplified volumes for different venue sizes. Additionally, this lets violinists expand their tonal possibilities by allowing them to use electronic effects, such as reverb, chorus, delay or flange.

The bridge, tuners fingerboard and chinrest of the FV-3 are all made from ebony. The body features a flame maple top, back and sides, and is finished with a traditional two-color sunburst. The piezo pickup has both volume and tone controls. Available in January, 2000, United States MSRP is $899.99.
