January 18, 1996 -- Kurzweil Music Systems announces the K2500R Production Station. The K2500R Production Station marks a new generation of synthesizer/samplers utilizing Kurzweil's versatile V.A.S.T.® architecture. The K2500R features true 48-note polyphony; a large flourescent illuminated 64 x 240 front-panel display; 60 internal DSP functions arranged in 31 algorithms; up to 28MB of internal ROM sounds; sample RAM expansion to 128 MB - that's over 24 minutes of CD-quality sampled sound; program memory expansion to 1,256 KB; dual 50 pin SCSI ports; software operating system upgrades via floppy disk; and a wide range of interfacing options, including digital connection with Alesis ADAT and Tascam DA-88 digital multitrack recorders (see separate release).
