Kurzweil K2vx and K2Svx

January 18, 1996 -- Kurzweil Music Systems is unveiling the K2vx and K2Svx - the ultimate models in the popular K2000 Series of sampling synthesizers featuring Kurzweil's proprietary VAST® architecture. The K2vx and its companion K2Svx sampler will take their places at the top of the K2000 line, which now includes the K2000, K2000S, K2000RS rack-mount sampler, and the new K2vx instruments.

The K2vx and K2Svx were designed for players at every level, and are supplied from the factory fully-loaded with an impressive array of features. These 61-note-keyboard instruments include 24 MB of sound ROM with 600 programs, 300 setups and 80 Quick Access banks; a powerful 32-track on-board sequencer; and Kurzweil's AFMS, the most intuitive data management system available. In addition, the K2vx is fully compatible with existing Kurzweil and third-party K2000 sound libraries, and can read most other major sample formats - giving access to the largest sound library in the world.

A major feature of the K2vx is the inclusion of 24 MB of on-board sound ROM, including 600 programs, 200 of which are based on sounds from the flagship K2500 Series, while others have been specially-created from the Contemporary and Orchestral ROM sets available as upgrades to the K2000. Five additional support disks are also included with the unit.

The K2vx's on-board 32-track sequencer incorporates many facilities found only on sophisticated computer-based MIDI applications - such as input quantization, event editing, fractional tempo, a resolution of 760 ppqn, and reference quantization. A special new feature is Interactive Sequence Arranging, which allows sequences to be assigned to specific keyboard keys or key ranges and triggered in realtime, in any order, from the keyboard - with velocity control; transposition is simple, and includes the ability to maintain drum and percussion parts at their original pitches.

The K2vx and K2Svx feature a 61-key mono pressure synth keyboard, enhanced 240 x 64 backlit graphic display, and a 3.5in high-density floppy drive along with rear-panel SCSI interfacing. Four independent audio outputs are provided, plus a mixed stereo output pair. The instruments also include pitch and mod wheels, and there are inputs for two footswitches and a continuous controller. On-board sample RAM can be expanded to 64 MB with standard SIMMs, and program RAM can be expanded to 760 KB (battery backed).

The K2vx's K2000 heritage allows access to extensive K2000 and K2500 sound libraries available from Kurzweil and third-parties, as well as providing full compatibility with existing sound editor/librarian packages for the K2000. The unit's ability to import Akai®, Roland® and Ensoniq® samples plus .WAV and .AIFF files; support MIDI sample dumps and SMDI transfers via SCSI; and read Type 0 MIDI files, gives the K2vx the largest sound library of any instrument in the world. In addition, Kurzweil's acclaimed V.A.S.T. architecture allows sounds to be created utilizing virtually any conceivable method of sound synthesis ever invented. The K2vx instruments include Kurzweil's unique Advanced File Management System (AFMS), which allows rapid access to files, sounds and other objects in RAM, ROM or on disk, thanks to sophisticated search routines. AFMS also offers macros, startup configuration and group move/copy/load/delete capabilities.
