Cakewalk Moves to Win '95, Pro Audio Update to be Released

January 18, 1996 -- Cakewalk unveils its new products for the Windows platform:

Cakewalk Moves to Windows '95

Cakewalk Music Software announced plans to release native Windows 95(TM) versions of its entire Cakewalk product line within the first half of 1996. The rollout of Cakewalk for Windows 95 will begin as early as this Spring, starting with Cakewalk Pro Audio(TM).

Cakewalk 4.01 Pro Audio Update to be Released

Cakewalk Music Software will be shipping a free maintenance release to all registered Cakewalk Pro Audio customers in January '96. Some new features include flexible, visual song structures; enhanced notation with guitar chord grids, dynamic markings, and enharmonic spellings; an improved Instrument Definition library, and more. Here's a partial list of new features:

  • Synchronization of Digital Audio to SMPTE. Cakewalk Pro Audio 4.01 can now play and record digital audio in perfect synchronization while in SMPTE sync mode, as well as internal sync mode. If the external clock drifts or changes rate, Cakewalk Pro Audio will "stretch" or "shrink" the digital audio in order to stay in sync.
  • CAL. The Cakewalk Application Language (CAL) is now included with Cakewalk Pro Audio. CAL allows you to build your own editing functions and macros for use with Cakewalk. CAL routines created in earlier versions of Cakewalk Professional(TM) also work in Cakewalk Pro Audio 4.01.
  • Enhanced Support for Digidesign's Session 8(TM), Cakewalk Pro Audio now has a built-in front panel interface for Session 8 routing, mixing and equalization. It fully supports the Session 8 882 1/0 interface, and is now fully compatible with Digidesign's latest Window's driver (version 2.03).
  • New Recording Modes for Digital Audio. In addition to the previously available "sound-on-sound" recording mode, Cakewalk Pro Audio now offers the full complement of replace, auto-punch and loop-recording modes.
  • Volume and Pan for Individual Audio Tracks. Audio tracks are now pannable to any position in the stereo field, and will respond to controller 10 to change the panning in real-time. Individual audio track volume is now supported via the track volume parameter and controller 7.
  • Full MMC Auto-Punch. Auto-Punch is now possible for all MMC digital recording devices that support on-the-fly recording.
  • Import Chord Libraries. The new Chord Dialog Import Button allows an existing chord library to be merged with the extensive chord library already found within Cakewalk Pro Audio, with no duplication.
  • Enhanced User Interface. There are a number of features in Cakewalk Pro Audio 4.01 designed to make it easier and faster to use. Optional Auto Shuttle selection times; a more powerful Panic Button; Track up/down buttons in the Piano Roil and Controllers View; Faders View Import Button; Delete Hole editing command; and more.

In addition to the new features, Cakewalk is also going to ship "audio extensions" for several additional digital audio hardware products. In 1996 Cakewalk Music Software will release audio extensions for Digidesign's new Audio Media III(TM) card, Soundscape Technology's SSHDRI(TM), the Yamaha CBX-3(TM) and CBX-5(TM), the Roland VS-880(TM) digital audio recorder, and Digital Audio Labs' new V8(TM) audio card.
