Crate "Thunder Bass"

January 18, 1996 -- Crate is introducing a completely new line of high-powered bass amplifiers, cabinets, and combos that will redefine their stature in the market.

Crate Product Manager Pat Stevenson has spent several years building guitar and keyboard amps, and winning several industry awards along the way. As a working bass player, Pat has been in nearly every type of band and studio situation, and has decided to reward himself with a new line of pro bass gear anyone would be proud to play through. He had three main goals to achieve with the ThunderBass line, "First, we use only custom designed American drivers made specifically for us by America's largest speaker manufacturer. These drivers have low resonant frequency, heavy duty magnet structures and spiders, and extended cone excursion with longer voice coil windings so you can drive them hard."

"Second, ThunderBass cabinets are made from 3/4" 12 ply Birch plywood to give them rigid perimeter walls, with the special tonal character that this high quality construction material provides. We also use particle board backs as they have the density to force the bulk of the sound towards the front of the stage. We use extensive internal 2" x 2" bracing front-to-back and top-to-bottom to assure a solid, stable, vibration-free design. "

"Finally, ThunderBass stage/extension cabinets are a full 18 3/4" deep, are tuned between 30 and 50Hz, and most are front-ported to produce maximum SPL."

All ThunderBass cabinets also include a conically transparent 78% open front grille for excellent high frequency output to match the incredible low-end produced by these cabinets. Horn-loaded models include the top of the line Foster tweeter and Violet L-pad used in some esoteric (and much higher priced) pro bass cabinets from other manufacturers.

The units are finished off with a durable Tolex covering, nickel corners, Easylift Bar Handles and removable casters along with heavy duty rubber feet for transport or stacking.

Crate's extensive new line will consist of a 160/220 Watt combo, a 160/220 Watt compact head, a 250/440 Watt compact head, a 200/350 Rack-mountable head, single and double 15" extension cabinets, a 2x1 0" cabinet (including a powered version), a 4x1 0" and a single 18" cabinet. All cabinets and combos with 15" speakers will be available with JBL premium speakers.

The ThunderBass comes with a Five-Year Warranty.
